With the release of The Exorcism, Kaleigh Mason brings a new feel to a classic genre by utilizing gospel, soul, and pop together all without losing the emotional platform great songwriting comes from.
Like other songs from Kaleigh’s catalog, the single is catchy and crosses into an r&b and classic doo wop aesthetic. The Exorcism is a story told about a girl, from the first person perspective. “It is about a girl so heartbroken, feeling so much pain that she wants every religious/spiritual person and figure to come together for her exorcism and exorcise her demons. It is lyrically very tongue-in-cheek. ” Kaleigh explains. Hailing from rural Ontario, Kaleigh began writing songs at only 5 years of age and has since taught herself piano, guitar and piano.
After the release of her 2013 album The Outlaw Project, the singer decided to … Read More »

“I started playing music when I was 16, in 2007. I had decided to take guitar lessons. They have been a sort of revelation. When I grew up, I didn’t listen to music that much. I had a few CDs that I would listen to all the time, without even trying to discover new artists, oddly. I would keep listening to Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill, Metallica, Aerosmith, Moby and a few bands from Quebec like Les Colocs or Jean Leloup.”
It was also during the winter of 2007 that Oliver Brad started electronic music production. Willing to discover new music, … Read More »

Affection, belonging, loss and nostalgia: four themes that encompass the lyrically driven music of The Written Years. These subjects are constantly questioned throughout the band’s songs, delivered passionately and honestly through Wade Ouellet’s melancholic acid-tinged vocals, Kane Enders’ unexpectedly triumphant drum lines and Kodie Krogh’s melodic and memorable guitar hooks.
Together, these three people are able to create a sound not currently heard in the Vancouver music scene, merging together a unique combination of indie alt. rock, traditional folk, post rock influences. Described as “Winter Music”, the result of all this manages to feel both incredibly intimate and uncomfortably isolating and is backed by a highly energetic live show – made possible by a revolving cast of friends, helping to make each one a completely different experience.
After six years in the making, The Written Years released their debut album on January … Read More »

Formerly intended to be a simple duo, Greek Riots is born from the ashes of the now long-dead punk band Screaming at Traffic. They are of the opinion that what is dead may never die, but rises harder and stronger. The band, comprised of Jacques Richer, Seamus Hamilton-Pattison, and Duncan Murta (former lead vocalist, bassist, and lead guitarist respectively) have welcomed Mack Hatcher (the former drummer of Glass Giants) and the classically trained Breandan Flynn, newcomer to Winnipeg’s music scene.
In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s bands were sprouting up all over the world only to be latched on to by the so-called Emo movement, a trend people still try to avoid talking about to this day. Dismissed by others for the ravings of an unintentionally garnered fan base, their pleasing and often complex sounds faded into obscurity, dragged … Read More »
