Artists You Should Know About
Isaac & Joel, the musical project of lifelong friends Isaac George and Joel Norman, is an indie-pop duo from the outskirts of Atlanta. They began making music together in middle school, recording covers and freestyle raps on their parents’ computers. Now in their early 20’s, they have become more serious about their music, while still retaining the freedom of being young and somewhat reckless. This youthful, daring style exemplifies itself in their music, but is accompanied by both member’s love for classical composers such as J.S. Bach, Haydn, and Brahms, giving the listener something deeper than the average pop song.

In Haley Osier’s first full-length album I Wrote This For You, the singer/songwriter from Grapevine, Texas, is successfully joining the ranks of several Lonestar upstarts who have (to the listening pleasure of music lovers) navigated the waters of pop and country without relinquishing her songwriting gravitas.
Haley’s 10-song debut is filled with her own original tunes exploring the inner workings of what it’s like to be vulnerable and real in this modern age. Youthful trailblazing songstresses such as Ms. Taylor Swift, whose moniker makes a cheeky appearance in her current single, have embedded their influence into Osier’s spirited forthright lyrics. However, with an altogether different perspective and her own stories to yield, Haley is anything but a knockoff.
Some might say for a singer/songwriter who’s merely edging into her twenties, she’s encroaching upon veteran status. With her hooks firmly planted into the Southern belt cinched around the music … Read More »

While serving as an instrumentalist and backup-vocalist in the Denver-based band The Stormcellars, singer/songwriter Calvin Armerding was writing his own songs in a basement apartment. The songs were rarely heard or rehearsed, but when he moved back to Upstate South Carolina in August of 2013, Calvin was determined to break up his one-man-band and find creative partners. The first step was reaching out to college friend Jeff Hennessy, with whom Calvin had played casually. Jeff’s sensibility and love of music significantly improves the scope and power of songs in desperate need of percussion. Calvin later met Shelby Price, who provides intuitive, laid-back harmonies that are so needed in many of his songs.
With roots spanning from Rockies all the way to the Carolina Blue Ridge, The Muchmores bring indie-folk sensibilities to bear on stories, protest songs, foot-stompers, and sweet melodies made … Read More »
Vocalists Torey Russell and Rachel Russell teamed up with DC-based producer Kent Heckaman in the summer of 2010 and the three collaborated to record songs that gravitate toward “non-traditional” folk tunes featuring the beautiful and often layered vocals of the Russell sisters. Sonnet Cottage released “Another Time” in 2012, and their debut album received critical acclaim for its meticulously recorded, melancholy acoustic songs. Many radio stations paid tribute as well, including spins on Sirius/XM Radio.
In 2012 Sonnet Cottage added the talents of guitarist Buddy Speir, and their forthcoming sophomore release “Half Written Story” now features the ethereal guitar textures that Speir often creates while not losing the acoustic structure from which the band was born.
“Beautiful guitars and strings, gorgeous female vocals, I’d like to hear more from this artist!” – Eric McLellan, A & R, Sire Records/Warner Bros

With the release of The Exorcism, Kaleigh Mason brings a new feel to a classic genre by utilizing gospel, soul, and pop together all without losing the emotional platform great songwriting comes from.
Like other songs from Kaleigh’s catalog, the single is catchy and crosses into an r&b and classic doo wop aesthetic. The Exorcism is a story told about a girl, from the first person perspective. “It is about a girl so heartbroken, feeling so much pain that she wants every religious/spiritual person and figure to come together for her exorcism and exorcise her demons. It is lyrically very tongue-in-cheek. ” Kaleigh explains. Hailing from rural Ontario, Kaleigh began writing songs at only 5 years of age and has since taught herself piano, guitar and piano.
After the release of her 2013 album The Outlaw Project, the singer decided to … Read More »
The career of Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Jessica Rotter began at the tender age of four, when her talent was discovered during a solo at church. Fast forward a couple decades, and the songstress’ voice has been heard across multiple genres, from movies, TV shows and commercials to backing vocals and collaborations with other artists—all in addition to her own original songs. The list of artists she has worked with reads like a who’s who of the music industry today: Daft Punk, Carole King, Alicia Keys, Sam Smith, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Quincy Jones, Martina McBride and others.
Rotter’s family roots are steeped in music as well. Her grandfather was a multi-instrument artist who wrote tunes for music legends Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Her parents both have a musical background, her mother a flutist and her father a composer and music … Read More »
Hailed for her angelic voice and haunting compositions, Molly Pinto Madigan won first place in WUMB’s Boston Folk Festival Songwriting Contest and was named “Artist of the Year” at Salem State University, her alma mater. Since her debut as the lead singer for the teen bluegrass band Jaded Mandolin, Madigan has submerged herself in the dark, luscious world of ballads, drawn to their magic, and her original songs echo with the whisperings of the American and European traditional music.
Madigan has performed extensively around the Boston area at venues like Club Passim, The Boston Celtic Music Festival, First Night Boston, Cantab Lounge, notloB Parlor Concerts, Campfire Festival, The Lizard Lounge, and The Bull Run, sharing the stage with some big names in folk music, including Claire Lynch, Scott Alarik, Bridget Fitzgerald (of Cherish the Ladies), Robbie O’Connell (of The Clancy … Read More »
