JOSH TARP AND THE STILL
Josh Tarp and The Still creates music that pushes the boundaries of genre stereotypes, creating a balanced pallet of folk, soul, and blues rounded together by constructively effortless songwriting. Since beginning this project in 2010, theirs songs have impacted a diverse and growing audience of true music lovers and easy listeners.
Although Josh Tarp and The Still has been playing together for 3 years, they still feel like newcomers to the local music scene, as well as their own creative space. For frontman Josh Tarp, music has never been a discipline of fitting in. While admittedly standing on the shoulders of legends such as Cash, Dylan, Springsteen, and Petty, Tarp’s goals do not include recreating the success of others. Josh Tarp and The Still is forging its own artistic identity while simultaneously giving a nod to the greats.
JTS began as a stage name for singer/songwriter Tarp in the spring of 2010. While completing an internship during college in Saint Paul, MN, Tarp met drummer Joel Bowers, who offered his services as a sideman for live performances. It wasn’t until the fall of 2012, however, that The Still transitioned from backing band for Tarp, to the collaborative collective it is now. Completing the band was bassist Beck Nebel and singer Grace Lukens.
In the summer of 2013, JTS took to the studio to craft their debut record, Vigilante EP. After months of searching for the right creative partner, The Still found great chemistry with producer Levi Stuglemeyer of The Cat Mansion Studio. The resulting 5 song EP pushes the boundaries of genre stereotypes, creating a balanced pallet of folk, soul, and blues rounded together by constructively effortless songwriting.
In October of 2013 JTS released Ghost In The Radio, the first single from Vigilante EP. The single is available for free download on NoiseTrade.com. The band is set to release the rest of the EP in early 2014.
